Desert Rose Door began in 2005 with a simple goal: help Arizona property owners care for doors and wood features affected by age, sunlight, dry conditions, and everyday use.
As customers continued to trust us with their homes and businesses, our work expanded beyond front doors. Today, our team refinishes and restores cabinets, furniture, vigas, window frames, baseboards, decorative trim, fiberglass doors, custom thresholds, and eligible new wood projects.

Many employees came to us with little or no background in woodworking or refinishing. We have had the privilege of training them through hands-on instruction, guidance from experienced team members, and practical project work.
Over time, they have developed real skill, pride, and care in what they do. Team members learn how to evaluate surfaces, strip old coatings, prepare wood, coordinate stain colors, apply protective finishes, complete touch-ups, and inspect finished work. They also learn the importance of handling the customer’s property carefully and communicating professionally.

Custom Colors and Finishes
Some customers want a stain that closely coordinates with the existing color, while others prefer a new tone that complements updated flooring, cabinetry, furniture, exterior finishes, or architectural details.
Our custom staining capabilities allow us to work toward an appearance suited to the property. We can also coordinate with a decorator or design professional when the project is part of a broader design plan.
Wood species, grain patterns, age, texture, and previous condition influence how stain is absorbed. Compatible fiberglass surfaces may also respond differently from natural wood, so we review these characteristics before work begins.
Our Door Refinishing Process
Every door is evaluated individually so we can determine the appropriate approach for its condition, material, and exposure.
1. Inspection
Our team checks the door for worn finish, moisture concerns, cracks, splits, and other areas that may require attention. This assessment guides the refinishing process.
2. Stripping
The existing stain and finish are removed before sanding. Stripping first helps preserve more of the wood and creates a cleaner surface for the new stain.
3. Sanding and Repairing
The door is sanded to prepare the wood for stain and protective finish. Minor cracks, splits, and surface concerns are addressed before work continues.
4. Staining
Customers may select a stain similar to the previous color or choose a new shade to refresh the door’s appearance. Natural variations in the wood may remain visible and contribute to its character.
5. Protective Finishing
Layers of a high-UV protective finish are applied based on the door’s exposure to sunlight and weather. Greater exposure may require additional protective layers.
6. Final Inspection and Touch-Ups
After the finish dries, the door undergoes a final inspection. The hardware is reattached, and necessary touch-ups are completed.
When the door has been removed during refinishing, it is carefully rehung or reinstalled within its existing opening and checked for proper alignment in the frame.
