Case Study: Plastic Trim on a Wooden Entry Door

What happens when you find plastic trim on a wooden door?

We recently ran into an issue we haven’t seen before that involved a beautiful wood entry door with detailed trim.

Our team arrived to refinish the front door and discovered as we were stripping the surface that sections of the trim around the speakeasy were actually made of plastic.

And of course, it began to melt during the refinishing process! It was shocking to see that happen. We searched everywhere for matching pieces to replace the plastic trim, but we couldn’t find any that were a solid match.

Luckily we have a CNC machine! CNC machining is a process in which computer software directs the movement of tools and machinery. The CNC process can be used to control a range of complex machinery, from grinders and lathes to mills and routers, and can be used to process intricate designs onto wood.

Our senior craftsman Don was able to re-create the design using our CNC machine and then cut out perfectly-shaped pieces. After only 36 hours on the CNC machine, the pieces were completed. The customer was very pleased and so were we!

If you have an unusual situation with your doors, give us a call. If we can create it on the CNC, we will do our best to help you!
